In Greenville County, mediation is required before litigants can proceed to a trial in Family Court; however, the cost of private mediation in the Greenville area can be prohibitive for many people. The Upstate Mediation Center is a private nonprofit organization providing mediation services based on income and does not refuse services because of an inability to pay.
We are looking for people of diverse professional and community backgrounds to become mediators. After a 5-day training course, you can begin mediating Family Court cases. You can volunteer a few hours a week or a few hours a month, based on your availability.
Significant scholarships are available in exchange for commitment to be a volunteer mediator at the UMC.
