Upstate Mediation Center is dependent on the involvement of volunteer mediators. Our community mediation services are provided at no-cost to our participants because we want this service to be accessible to everyone, regardless of income. Our entire community wins when we can reduce court involvement and support our neighbors in conflict resolution. To provide mediation free of charge and serve everyone in our area, we rely on volunteers.
As a volunteer mediator you will support people navigating through some of the most difficult times in their lives. You will be providing a private, nonjudgmental space where participants can speak openly and honestly about their situation and make a customized plan to meet everyone’s needs.
To become a volunteer community mediator with UMC, you must first complete our 3-day training session. The training is free to those who apply and are accepted to participate. Training is followed by apprenticeship and mentoring, and continuing education opportunities.
What: Three days of training: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (lunch provided). During this “hands-on” training, attendees will learn by practicing radically non-judgmental mediation skills through discussion, role-plays, reflection, and feedback.
When: January 22, 23, and 29, 2022
Where: Upstate Mediation Center, 27 Cleveland St., Suite 101, Greenville, SC 29601
Who: Anyone with a passion for empowering others to resolve their conflicts productively! We are looking for a diverse group of volunteers from the Greenville area. There are no education requirements. There is an application process.
Please request your court mandated (Family Court or Court of Common Pleas) mediation below.
Our team will be in contact regarding scheduling finalization and details. Mediation is not scheduled until confirmed by the Mediation Coordinator, Zoey Klein.
